I’ve gone to great efforts to come up with a high quality setup. I didn’t just want to sit in front of my webcam, I wanted to carry on providing my students with the high standards I like to set. I use an audio interface to process my guitar through a professional amp and effect simulator (Line 6 Helix). I also have a loop pedal so I can demonstrate chord progressions, solos and guitar riffs easily. I use a professional condenser microphone so my speech is clear and precise, because I use an interface I can adjust both my speech and guitar signal independently to get the correct balance.

I have invested in a high quality HD Webcam so you can see my video crystal clearl. I also have multicam angles that I can use for a close up angle on either my left hand to demonstrate my left hand fretting or my right hand picking.

Here is my setup for online teaching.

I use the software MuseScore 3, I will write about this fantastic bit of software in a blog at some point. MuseScore allows me to write out music for guitar, so I can share my screen with you and you will be able to see it clearly at your end.

The best thing that you as the student can do is sit in a well lit area and use a decent pair of headphones, using laptop or tablet is desirable so you can see clearly what I’m screen sharing with you.

Make sure you check out the video above demonstrating everything I’ve just spoken about, if you use the headphones and device that you plan on using for your lessons, you can see exactly what the lessons will be like for you.
