Combo vs Amp and Cab

Amps come in two options, Combos and separate Amps and Cabinets (cabs, which house the speaker). Combos are easy to use, as they contain the amp and speaker, but with a seperate amp and cab you have to check for the amp Ohms, this can be quite complication depending on how the amp is wired so for beginners I recommended buying a Combo or if you’re insistent of buying a Cab, buy a matching one (one that is design to work with the head (amp) you’re purchasing.

Combos are good for gigs where you are proving your own amp, however lots of gigs provide ‘backline.’ Which is the core equipment for the gig and a Cab is considered part of this so this is where owning a seperate head can be useful.
